Louisiana Storm
Aug. 30th, 2005 02:04 pmUsually I never post more than a line or two of lyrics in my journal. Sometimes I find it annoying when others do. But when I remembered this song today, well, it's so appropriate I couldn't believe that I hadn't remembered it a few days ago. The title is Louisiana Storm, the artist is my favorite folk singer Bill Staines, the lyrics are behind the cut.
This old muddy water's been rising
The levee's gone and broken down
And the snakes and the gators and the muskrats too,
Well they're headin' for higher ground
Have you ever seen a stream go crazy?
Tell you boys it ain't no fun,
You got mud, you got silt, you got danger everywhere,
The water don't know which way to run
Send the sunshine down
Down on Louisiana
Send the sunshine down, let it dry up all of the rain
Along comes Billy in a rowboat
A rowboat built for two
And he's got a woman, he's got a child,
He's got an old blind man about to sink the boat,
But what can you do?
Some people find it hard to believe,
Some are cursing out up at the sky
Well this fella he's looking for his family dog
And some are hanging their heads to cry
Send the sunshine down
Down on Louisiana
Send the sunshine down, let it dry up all of the rain
People been sticking together
The water's been rising all day
Some are breaking their backs with those sand filled sacks
And some are bowing their heads to pray
Send the sunshine down
Down on Louisiana
Send the sunshine down, let it dry up all of the rain
If I ever live to be a hundred,
One thing I will remember well -
At one time in my life, well I seen enough water to put out all of the fire in hell.
Send the sunshine down
Down on Louisiana
Send the sunshine down, let it dry up all of the rain
Send the sunshine down, let it dry up all of the rain.
This old muddy water's been rising
The levee's gone and broken down
And the snakes and the gators and the muskrats too,
Well they're headin' for higher ground
Have you ever seen a stream go crazy?
Tell you boys it ain't no fun,
You got mud, you got silt, you got danger everywhere,
The water don't know which way to run
Send the sunshine down
Down on Louisiana
Send the sunshine down, let it dry up all of the rain

And he's got a woman, he's got a child,
He's got an old blind man about to sink the boat,
But what can you do?

Send the sunshine down, let it dry up all of the rain.
