delightful weekend

It began with Friday, when I accompanied
buxom_bey and
katkt to Breakheart Reservation. We left Davis Square around noon, and headed out to the beach with blankets, food, trashy fiction... all the essentials.
It was a nice walk through the woods. I would like to visit the spot again for more hiking-type purposes. I think that would be fun. We napped, swam a bit (only in the shallows - we feared the pondsharks) and generally had a good time. Also
buxom_bey and I put sunscreen on each other. That was fun for the whole family. In a PG sort of way.
katkt considerately gave me a ride back to Davis. I met up with
mrpet and we went out for a simple dinner, which turned into steak because the line at the Greek place was too long. Mmmm, petite filet. He and I both passed out shortly after getting home.
In the morning,
starkeymonster and I headed to North Station. Our goal? To take the Downeaster train to Portland, to visit the lovely
hanseth and her charming wife. But we were twice thwarted in our plan - once by a sold-out train, and once by a shuttlebus from Government Center which mysteriously failed to stop at North Station. However, we managed to change our reservations to noon, and spent the intervening time sitting outside with our knitting.
The train was not crowded, very clean, and relatively quiet. I highly recommend the business section - it was quite spacious. We arrived in Portland around two-thirty. After some downtime, we visited Silly's restaurant, home of amazing lamb, delicious feta, and shockingly cheap Sangria. At five dollars A PITCHER, I perhaps had a little more than I needed. (A pitcher contained about five or six glasses. Yum.) They also had an amazing vegan dessert. Our waitress had invented it some time before. Fried plantains with toasted pecans and coconut. There was also honey sauce, which could be ommitted for vegan purists. The dessert was nearly the size of my head. She put it in front of me and said, "There! How do you feel? Do you feel special?" to which I replied, "Yes!!!" It was incredibly decadent.
Then
starkeymonster and I spent a little time on the beach, which was dark and fish-smelling and lovely. We went to bed shortly thereafter.
Today has already included more knitting and a delicious brunch featuring sweet potato waffles. (!!) After I help
starkeymonster with the dishes, we're going to visit The Fibre Company, the mill that processes the alpaca from the farm I visited last weekend. And then, the beach! We'll be taking an evening train home.
Delightful!
