Okay, actually I just thought of something that I want to know even more than _who_ reads my journal.

If you do read my journal, why? What do you like about it, or get out of it?
(I'm not just looking for strokes here, but also an idea of what content people care about.)

Thanks to the eight people who already responded to the previous version - I hope you'll all comment again. :)

I find it interesting, and generally well-thought-out. I tend to skip over the knittery, but I suspect I'm not the target audience anyway. :) We have a number of things/communities in common, etc., etc.

*nod* Good point about the knittery. I have thought about filtering it but I like to have some types of content (book reviews, knitting etc) CONSISTENTLY public, so there's something there for people who are just cruising through. If a lot of other people agree with you I might do it differently.

I try to put anything that's long behind the cut, and use good subject headings, anyhow.

-This is definitely a better version of the meme.

-I read because you're interesting, because you're my friend, and because reading your LJ appears to be linked to an increase in HBBs in my life.

This is definitely a better version of the meme.

Thanks.

It's actually kinda funny how much sex I seem to have gotten you in the past few years without ever actually having had sex with you myself. *grin*

the problem with this version of the meme is that people who are lazy, or busy, or distracted, &c, are less likely to respond to this one becuase it involves typing more than one word.
i'm curious about the one-word responses that designate "i do read here" that i might not get with the other meme.
(for example, i might well not bother to respond to this version of the meme for everyone because it would require actually figuring out which categories of content they produce...)

I read your LJ because you're one of the people I consider part of my tribe, who i'd like to keep in touch with, but don't see very often in RL- so this lets me still know what's going on in your life.

Aww, thanks. I'm glad you consider me part of your tribe. :)

I'll comment here instead.

I think I read your journal because I like you but I don't know you very well; Livejournal might be an imperfect mechanism for changing that, but at least it's an easily-available one.

i like the book reviews, and i like seeing what knitting you're up to even if i might end up skimming if it's not something i'd knit myself.
and it's good to hear how your life is going and knowing more or less how life is in your corner of the universe.

I was so tempted to respond to the previous one, "I don't read."

I have a hard time articulating why. I wandered by after meeting you and being able to easily find your LJ, and I haven't left because ... it's sufficiently interesting.

I read your journal because you are one of my really good friends and I like to know what's going on in your life. Also, you have many interesting perspectives and many experiences outside of my own, and I like to see your insight into life in general.

Because I like feeling like a part of your life even when we can't see each other, and I want to know what's important to you on an ongoing basis. Also, you write *really* well, on a variety of interesting topics, many of which interest me.

(You have your own URL on my bookmarks. :)

-I like you and find you interesting, and like to know what's going on in your life, especially since I don't see you often. I also ditto what klingonlandlady said about being a part of her tribe; you're part of mine too. :-)

-I enjoy your stories about becoming a doula.

-I enjoy your racy entries, they're very well-written and affecting.

What she said. Also because you are one of the most amazing folks I've ever met and I want to be connected to a small part of your life, even if as a voyeur. ;-)

Yes, I read your journal, and I read it 'cause you are this wonderful interesting sexy woman who I want more insight into. You are elequant and knowledgeable, and, most importantly, honest. While you write on a variety of topics, from your work to your sex life to knitting (which I personally have no interest in) the way you write makes me want to read every post, even if it's about something I would have no interest in otherwise. I don't know if that's a very good explination, but I tried :-)

Wow. What amazing compliments. :) That's even nicer than knowing you like reading about X topics...
Thanks hon.

why i read your lj

From: [identity profile] cyclothemia.livejournal.com
main reason- i miss you and Jim something awful. you two put order into my life when there was none, and my time serving you was a relief, an education, and a way of bringing serenity into my life. i don't think i'd be where i am now emotionally or mentally had it not been for you guys.
i also really enjoy your posts. we have some similar interests, and i generally pick up on new things when i read, books or ideas i might not have come across on my own. the sex stories are beautiful, the doula information is fascinating, and the food you eat, even, leads me to look at the things i eat and come up with alternatives.
i definately feel like you're a part of my long distance tribe, and you're one of the very few reasons i'd come back to the East Coast.

I read you because I haven't been connecting with you much, lately, and you're one of the significant relationships in my life. I don't necessarily read every word, just as I expect most of my friends list doesn't read every one of my words. But I do need to stay connected with you. Hopefully meat space connection is on the near horizon for us, though.

I read because you seem like one of the most interesting people I've never met. Because while I don't think we have mutual friends, I think we're very few degrees of separation away. Because I'd like to meet you, and I can't think of a way to arrange that so I read because I'd like to know even more about you in the hopes that I might, in fact, sometime meet you.

I have no excuse for the belatedness of this response, but this was a nice thing to read. I do try to attend the MOB socials from time to time, so finding me there wouldn't be impossible. :) It would be fun to meet.

I just starting reading your journal about five minutes ago. :-) I read it because I care about you, and I want to see what you're doing/thinking about/feeling. Feel free to have a completely boring life -- no need to make it interesting on my account! :-)

Hugs,

Cory
