At first I thought it was just that it seemed slow in comparison to Unix. But it is becoming clear that there is something slowing down my Windows laptop. So, now I am doing spybot checks and a million and one other things to try to fix the problems. Windows, I love you less and less every day. You will not be a major fixture in my life much longer.

Wonder if indexing is running in the background? It'll show us as SearchIndexer.exe in the task manager. You can also sort the task manager by CPU usage to see if anything else is hogging resources.

Also, try running msconfig from Start>Run, and then go to the Startup tab. See anything you don't recognize or want to run at startup?

(* Realize there's a high likelihood you already knew all this, but in the event any of it might be helpful.)

Thanks. I think it was the 8 pieces of spyware I found. :P But if I have any more problems I will try these suggestions.
