Reason for Reading: I picked it up at the library and thought it looked interesting.

Cover: A man gazes at the reader with a serious expression. A hawk perches on a barren branch behind him.
First line: "Ruaud de Lanvaux staggered as he passed beneath the archway into fabled Ondhessar."
Best part: The characters and their motivations seemed very real to me.

Related Reads: It reminded me a bit of the Valdemar series, though it was not as compelling.

As a young man, Jagu lost a friend to foul soul-stealing sorcery.
Circumstances bring these two together. Both burn for revenge. Will they be strong enough to find a way, or will they be distracted by their own dreams and ambitions?
