So, I decided to take this class through opencoursework - Psychology 101 at Yale. I was able to get the main reader for the class as an ILL, but only for a short period of time (9 days) so when I had it, I photocopied the table of contents and the bibliography. Since then I have been requesting all the various excerpted books from the library. (I miss out on the interesting discussion questions the reader includes, but, it's an imperfect world.)

Some of the readings I've found really interesting, and others have appalled me. Here is my favorite quote from this week, from one I liked: "Three-year-olds do act like lovers towards their parents. In fact, they act like lovers out of Italian opera, with passionate and sensual embraces and equally passionate despair at separation and jealousy of rivals." This is possibly the best metaphor for toddler behavior I've ever encountered.

I want to get as much of the reading done as I can before I continue to watch the lectures, so I don't get lost. Especially considering that the other textbook is, so far, out of my reach. But I'm hopeful. Ever hopeful.
