First of all, the Snack Man is fine. Totally fine.

However, I just learned that our vet is being monitored for having a high number of complaints against him. Sigh.

We like Angell for emergencies, but they are too pricey for regular care. Can anyone suggest a local vet that does cats and doesn't charge the earth?

Thanks kids!

Not sure if this is out of your price range but Porter Sq Vet (in Davis) is actually really great. I bring Budd there. A yearly checkup with shots usually runs near $100. Not sure about the price of other stuff, though.

I don't know if it's too far away, but I was always very happy with Arlington Animal Clinic on Broadway St in East Arlington. Here's a link to their Yelp page:

Ditto with uncertainty regarding $, but I love Dr. Parker at Porter Square Vet in Davis like nobody's business. He has worked with us in terms of which pricey tests are imperative versus optional and has helped me through a couple crying guilt jags. His manner with Prince is firm but incredibly gentle and he is just an all-around sweetheart.

However, and I forget her name, there's another vet there who I hate with muchness.

I've had nothing but good experiences with City Cats in Arlington on Mass Ave. I wouldn't call them cheap, but neither do I find it exorbitant, and they're happy to explain what they're charging for and make sure you're OK with the bill before going ahead. My cats--well, one of them--is more difficult than most, and they handled her well without getting upset or freaking her out more than necessary.

Waltham is never convenient, but I was happy with Dr. Rosenblatt at Kindness Animal Hospital in Waltham. It is around $50 for an exam.

That's great to know, we will make a point of seeing Dr. Parker.
