digestive developments
May. 11th, 2005 06:15 pmSo, I finally made an appointment at the Marino Center to start seeing an acupuncturist again, to strengthen my digestive tract.
It's been quite a while. I started seeing one about a year ago, and then my life exploded. I couldn't keep up with any kind of regular health care. So I stopped going.
I really hope that this is going to help with my digestive issues. Western medicine has been extremely un-helpful. My doctor said, "Stop eating those foods. And if you eat other foods a lot, you might start having reactions to those too." Great. That's really helpful.
Also, a friend recently gave me a tip about digestive enzymes you can buy over the counter. My "allergies" are foods that I can't digest, because my body doesn't make the right enzymes. Apparently, they make enzyme supplements. I tried some the other night while eating Mexican food. Way, way better than Lactaid - my stomach didn't hurt at all. So maybe I'm having trouble breaking down fats or proteins, not just those specific foods I know I can't have? 'Cause when my stomach is upset I can't usually eat meat or anything greasy.
If it continues to work really well with foods that I eat normally, I might try eating them with foods that I have given up on. I miss rice. It's funny, but if I could choose between getting rice back and getting chocolate back, it would be really really hard, but I'd probably choose rice. Chocolate was never a major part of my diet, you know?
It would be awesome if at least one of these things was helpful.
