In which I discuss our trip to Webs, and I post a picture of the surprise present I made for [livejournal.com profile] starkeymonster.

So, yesterday I made a pilgrimage to Northampton with [livejournal.com profile] starkeymonster, [livejournal.com profile] mrpet, and [livejournal.com profile] wyoluvr. Our goal? The anniversary sale of Webs, discount yarn store extraordinaire.
As is traditional for us, we started out with brunch at Sylvester's, and finished with a long soak at East Heaven Hot Tubs.

While at Webs, I got The Knitter's Guide to Finishing Techniques, which I realized a little while ago I needed. That was the only thing I got that wasn't on sale. (Don't I rock?) I got enough heather-gray wool to make the Mariah hoodie with. I also got a whole bunch of DK-weight cotton-tensile yarn in a pretty orchid color, which I am going to use to make a lacy summer shawl. (It might be this one. Or I might do something more abstract, like this.)
My only indulgence was a half-cone of really pretty chenille yarn. I got 700 yards for nine dollars. It was space-dyed, and has colors from dusty rose to pale red to chocolate to beige. Not sure what I'm going to do with it, although I'm tempted to make some really impractical lingerie.

And now, for the unveiling!

before before

A regrettable sweatervest. (Perhaps that's redundant.) But it's made out of silk, and the colors are so pretty! I knew as soon as I saw it at Boomerang that it would become something for my lovely girlfriend, since she's allergic to wool. Silk often comes apart when you frog it, but in this case it was thick enough that it hung together pretty well.
after after

Now it's a sophisticated scarf, with some yarn left over. (This is called the MultiDirectional Scarf, if anyone else wants to try it. It was an awesome pattern.) Any suggestions of what to do with the second half?

DK-weight cotton-tensile yarn

It's actually Tencel. Some info on it can be found here:

Yay for Webs and hot tubs!
