So, today I finally got around to cataloging and classifying my dreamsigns of the past few weeks. I'm really happy with my level of dream recall - at least one dream per night for a while, often two, even without my keeping paper by the bed (which I never seem to get around to setting up).

By far, I had the most Context dreamsigns - almost twice as many as the signs in the next highest category. (The next highest category was Action - things or people not behaving as they should - and the next was Form - things taking strange appearances. The lowest category for me, with only a few hits, was Inner Awareness - a dreamsign marked by strong emotions, unusual thoughts or perceptions.) So that is going to be my "target dreamsign category" - the thing that I am going to look for that is going to tell me whether or not I am dreaming. According to the book, you should study your target dreamsign category in waking life. The example they use is action - if action is the dreamsign, study the way things move and what they do, so you can tell when something is off. Form is likewise easy to understand. Context is harder! My interpretation is that I should start paying more attention how things fit together and whether they make sense. (Examples of context pieces are me dreaming that I'm back in high school or college, interacting with TV characters as if they were regular people, and being in a role of a zombie or a revolutionary.) This should be an interesting excercise of my mental faculties. :)

I am already asking myself once in a while whether I am awake or dreaming. According to the book, I will need to start doing this more often. Five to ten times a day is the suggestion. When you see a dreamsign, when something surprising happens, or if things feel unreal. Also, anything pertaining to recurring dreams. In my case, I seem to have recurring dreams about being in school or at school, so I should look for that.
- When I'm in an unfamiliar place
- When I'm near a school or college
- When I see a recurring TV character (recently I have had several dreams involving them)
- When I have a conflict with someone else
- When I see someone in person (I am alone far more in person than in my dreams)

This may not be the definitive list, but I think it's a good start for now.
