Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips
May. 21st, 2008 10:47 amMany times, we see books described as "a delightful romp." I don't know what you guys think, but I always feel skeptical when I see that description. Me, the cat lover, romping happily across the dog park with a Yorkie on a leash? (I don't know why, but the word "romp" always makes me think of dogs.) Wearing a pink and gray tracksuit? Or worse yet... a romper?
Then there's this book. The Greek Gods are down on their luck, living in a delapidated London townhouse. Artemis is a dog walker. Apollo is a TV psychic. Aphrodite does phone sex. Most of them have lost their powers, and all of them are terribly, terribly bored. The only things that keep them going are their long-lasting feuds and meddling in the lives of mortals. But this time, one of the feuds has gone too far...
I can actually say that this a delightful romp. It won't change your life, but I do guarantee you will laugh at least once per chapter. Satisfying ending, too. Four stars.
ETA: Right. So, you should read this book if you like mythology or playful comeday.
