Dear LJ Genie...

I wish to seek the services of a nutritionist and a chiropractor. The nutritionist should be able to give a York blood test (which tells you your food intolerances). The chiropractor should be gentle. Both should be in Somerville, Cambridge, or reasonably T-accessible from same. (This includes subway or bus but not Commuter Rail.) Specific suggestions of a practitioner are to be preferred over suggestions of institutions where practitioners can be found.

Tell me something good!

While he's not exactly a chiropracter, I recommend Barry at Muscular Solutions (http://www.muscularsolutions.com/). The only drawback is that he doesn't take insurance.

Thank. That's not quite what I'm looking for right now, but I appreciate the recommendation.

When I lived in Medford I went to Dr. Mary McGouran at Amethyst Chiropractic in Davis Square. They are above the passport photo place. I found her to be friendly, open, helpful and gentle. I didn't have occasion to inquire to her alternative-lifestyle-friendliness (if that's a concern in this case), but I suspect she's probably pretty laid back in that respect.

Best of luck in your search!

Thanks! I actually saw your note about her from a while back in the Davis Square community, so I already called them. Unfortunately, though, the chiros at Amethyst are not taking new patients.

Damn! Okay, well hopefully other suggestions turn up some good leads. :)

A fresh inquiry in the same community generated the idea of the Marino Center, so I may give them a try.

There's a very nice ND in my building, Dr. Oceana Rames whose website www.droceana.com is very unhelpful and under construction, but who I would call about the york blood tests, because I know that she is very nutritionally-oriented, but I honestly don't know her scope of practice as a Naturopathic Doctor. Her number is 508-696-3992 if you're interested.

For nutrition help, I can't recommend Carrie highly enough:

Read Erica's testimonial, you'll see why.

I've had some work done by DC Al Maalouf at the Marino Center on Mass Ave 617-661-5225 and have had good results with getting by back straightened out.

Someone else recommended them too! I will call them tomorrow.

My chiropractor, Tim Knight, is very gentle and *very* good (he's been practicing for 25 years now). Quickest way to get to him is to take the 77 (or 79 if coming from alewife) to the second-to-last stop in arlington, walk down park ave and take the sharper right at the crazy intersection. I can give you his number, if you like, and I think he has a website somewhere too.
