1. When I first moved to Boston, I was sharing an apartment with three friends. The room that I was to occupy was filled with my roommate Dann's stuff (long story), so all my stuff got piled in with all of Jorn's stuff such that we could not even enter the last bedroom--floor to ceiling boxes. Dann and I stood in the hall, contemplating this, and with everything else that possibly needed doing, Dann said, "Let me move this rug," and picked up a small throw rug and moved it to a different room. And that was the funniest thing I'd ever heard, and we made a big ongoing joke out of it, to the point where we've started a National Rug Moving Day. So, yeah, rugs. I guess Aladdin's carpet was for me the epitome of a rug on the move. I mostly use it for silly things or for commenting on Dann's stuff.
2. It's from the movie Monsoon Wedding. Visually it's a really beautiful movie. Alice is one of my favorite characters--she seems like a sort of simple person but at the same time she's very contemplative. The marigolds are a symbol throughout the movie as well. I thought it was a beautiful picture and I use it when I'm feeling thoughtful.
3. Toadette is a video game character. She's in Mario Kart Double Dash. She's the female counterpart of Toad, and I think they just made her up for this game because she never showed up in the Mario series previously as far as I know. She's really cute!
