Over the weekend, I read The Blue Place by Nicola Griffith. Before this mystery she wrote sci fi novels. I loved the book. It was haunting and sensual, though very bleak. Four stars. I want to read the two sequels, but I feel a bit scared, you know?

Today, I read Aquamarine by Alice Hoffman. I love most of her books, but a few don't do it for me. This is one of the few. It was okay, but nothing special. Three stars.

I am returning Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates by Tom Robbins to the library, unfinished. I normally love Robbins. However, much of the plot of this book seems to hinge on the lust of the middle-aged main character for his teenage stepsister. I couldn't get past the scene where he saw her trying on a training bra at age twelve. Yuck. Going back to the library.

I didn't care for Aquamarine either. I really liked Seven Moves by the same author, though. I agree with you on The Blue Place... excellent book, but whoa, heavy.
