sweet, but not too sweet
Mar. 15th, 2007 12:36 pmThis week I wanted to read fluffy, comforting books.
First, we have In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner. So, a less than favorable review from
bryghtrose when it first came out meant that it took me a long time to read this book, even though I had enjoyed Good In Bed by the same author. However, I really liked this book. It was much longer than GIB, and I really liked that. I liked that the characters were touching, and that it had a happy ending, but that many of the issues explored in the book were real. Dysfunctional families, betrayals, estrangement. People not knowing how to make their lives better. This really makes me want to read more of Weiner's books. (Did that paragraph use the word "really" enough? What do you think?) Four stars.
Second, Murder on Lenox Hill, some number in Victoria Thompson's Gaslight Mysteries series. This piece was not action-packed. It's one of those "plot arc" ones, if you know what I mean. Personally, I really liked it. I liked that it was not murder-focused, and the plot structure was pretty different. It's neat to see a somewhat formulaic series mix it up. Three stars.
Third - OMG BUFFY SEASON EIGHT. OMG SO SEXY. If my throat weren't sore, I would totally squee.
7j ROCKS for getting it for me before I even knew it existed. More, Joss, more! I demand more!!! Million Year Picnic's got it, if you don't have yours yet. Five stars!
