Yesterday afternoon, my roommate asked me, "So, what are you going to do this afternoon?" And I replied, "You know, I got so much done this morning that I'm not sure what to do now."

Yesterday morning, [livejournal.com profile] mrpet and I got to talking over breakfast. I was telling him that I really wanted to put my yarn baskets back up. (I use baskets to store yarn in my room, so I can enjoy its colors and textures before I knit with it.) I asked him to help me, and he generously agreed. We decided to move the bookshelves in my room up by about a foot. Then I remembered the pretty brackets I had picked up six months ago for adding new shelves, which we never got around to - they're painted white and curling. I took everything off the shelves, washed them, and put old sheets over relevant stuff. He replaced the brackets and re-installed them and filled in the little holes with spackle. We hung the baskets from the bottom of the brackets, because they have little curlicues at the bottoms. I put the books back on the shelves and the yarn back in the baskets. Sometime in this process, I mentioned that I also wanted another under-the-bed box, now that my bed takes up even more of my room, and he mentioned that the one he had gotten for his own room didn't fit under his bed, so now even more of my yarn is appropriately stored, rather than piled child-high in my closet. Yay!

It's starting to look really good in there. On the left, it's airy, elegant, femme. On the right, it has an English country cottage feel - homey and cozy. Yes, I know you all want pictures, I just can't find the camera. Sorry. As soon as I find it, there will be many pictures.

[livejournal.com profile] mrpet was also good enough to pick up a featherbed for me, on sale at Target. Now I can enjoy the firm properties of my new mattress without getting poked by coils. It feels really nice, although I suspect I'll need a different solution in the summer - it warms things up considerably. Well, maybe by the summer I can afford an entirely new mattress.

Next projects:

- Putting up a small shelf near my bed, for an alarm clock, a box of Kleenex, etc. This will mean I can move the little table I've been using for that to the space in between my easy chair and my laundry basket, thus creating a space to put down a cup of tea or a book.
- A more thorough cleaning of the top of my dresser, which is now the main place in my room where I have a surface to set things on, and thus more important than it once was. Tossing all of those old jewel cases clearly needs to happen.
- Painting the pieces of the bedframe that we added at the last minute, and touching up the paint on the top of the frame where dings and bird poop happened.
- Further bedframe decoration, probably with swathes of fabric.
- Figuring out a better place to put my new makeup case.

Also this week, I set up a sideboard on a low bookcase that normally accumulates clutter. Now instead it has a tray with our decanter and port glasses and open bottles of things we like to drink, next to a small wine rack we got at our housewares swap. Yay.
