I read three books on a trip to Michigan - Angelica, Moon Called, and Widdershins.

When I returned, I also read the graphic novel Serenity: Those Left Behind.

Angelica, by Sharon Shinn, was a re-read. This is my favorite of her Samaria books. It's very, very good. I think this is the third time I've read it since it came out. Four stars.

Moon Called by Patricia Briggs is a new book, possibly the start of a new series. Briggs is also following somewhat in the footsteps of Laurell K Hamilton - this is dark urban fantasy with a romantic feel. I enjoyed Moon Called, especially for its treatment of werewolves. It wasn't terribly original, though. Three stars.

Widdershins is the new book by Charles de Lint. It is somewhat of a sequel to The Onion Girl - further adventures of Jilly Coppercorn and all that. I enjoyed this book but the jumping around between viewpoint characters with every chapter kinda bugged me. Especially since there were so darned MANY viewpoint characters, and the switches always took place right after something dire happened to THAT viewpoint character, and you had to read four or five chapters more to find out how they resolved it. Partly because of this issue, the conclusion was enormous, taking almost a hundred pages. Still, it was a solid read and definitely made my day of traveling go by quickly. Three stars.

Serenity: Those Left Behind by Joss Whedon et al is a Firefly-based graphic novel. It takes place in between the end of the television series and the beginning of the movie, Serenity. As some folks reviewed on amazon, it doesn't really add anything, but it was a neat format and I enjoyed the graphics. I wish it was longer and had more substance, though. Two stars for book 63.
