to fly away
May. 16th, 2006 07:42 amThis week I revisited the genre of dark fantasy romance.
First, I read the new book in the Dresden Files, Dead Beat. I was pleased with this book. It had just the kind of hilarious and sickening plot twists that you would expect from Jim Butcher. Four stars, and I am so impressed that he continues to keep the quality high.
Second, I read the newest Anita Blake book, Micah. Yes, it was sexy. It was also trash. I mean, there was a Plot Point about how big her lover's manhood is. A plot point! Come on. I really enjoy her Merry Gentry series better. Also, there were only two chapters about the Bad Guys, the rest was just her having sex. Two stars. I'm glad I read it in one day and didn't expect much.
Also, I must note with amusement that the new Merry Gentry book, coming out at the end of the year, does not follow the naming convention of the previous four (Kiss of Shadows, Caress of Twilight, etc.) but is on much safer ground with Mistral's Kiss. I guess Hamilton didn't like my Afterglow in the Wee Hours idea.
