books like comfort food
Apr. 30th, 2006 10:37 amI bought LCSI: Dead Man on the Moon a while back. I have enjoyed Steven Harper's Dreamer series, and thought it would be fun to try something else he's written. I enjoyed the book but I missed the religious/magical aspect of the Dreamer books. Also, his straight characters are not as convincing as his gay characters, imo. But I did like the day-after-tomorrow, matter-of-fact style of the science fiction aspects - you can really imagine things going the way they do in this book. I enjoy that sort of sci fi. Three stars. (Anybody interested in reading this book? I'd be happy to trade it for a different new sci fi book, or what have you.)
I followed up with Undead and Unemployed by MaryJanice Davidson, book #47 for the year. I enjoyed this one just as much as Undead and Unwed. It was predictable - yeah, I could see most of the plot turns coming - but definitely fun to read. I love the way Betsy talks about shoes. Four stars.
