love is a dangerous angel
Apr. 18th, 2006 01:17 pmThe Thirteenth House by Sharon Shinn is the recently-released sequel to Mystic and Rider. I love Sharon Shinn and have enjoyed almost everything she's written. I liked this book, but it wasn't one of my favorites from her. Some of the plot twists seemed just a bit too convenient to me, although I won't say which, because I don't want to spoil it. Also, I'm beginning to wonder when she's going to write a gay character or two. Three stars. I am eagerly anticipating her other new book, Dream-maker's Magic, as I just love that series.
Liavek:The Players of Luck, edited by Will Shetterly and Emma Bull, was the sequel to Liavek. If you missed my previous review, this is a shared world, similar to Bordertown or Thieves' World. It was not as successful as either, despite having some intriguing aspects. I started reading this series because Emma Bull is one of my favorite authors. I liked the second book, although it wasn't as good as the first. My favorite stories were "A Well-Made Plan" by Emma Bull, "Dry Well" by Nathan A Bucklin, and "An Act of Trust" by Steven Brust. Three stars.
