First there was A Time of Omens by Katherine Kerr. This is the last book I'm reading in this series, and not just because the next one has a Look, I'm just not that into dragons, okay? No, you may NOT have my Fantasy Enthusiasts' Club card! Buzz off!in it. The action has been slowing down for the past several books. Now it's at a snail's pace. I've read several books just because I wanted to find out what the rose ring meant, and I still don't know, and I'm just done, okay? She's fallen prey to the X-files syndrome. (Also known as Robert Jordan's disease - when things just keep getting more and more complicated, with anything ever getting resolved.) Her characterization is falling by the wayside. Fine, he used to be a Grand High Pooh-Bah in a previous life, but what is his hair color in this life? What are his talents and interests? I'd give it a two.

Then there was Powers That Be by Elizabeth Scarborough and Anne McCaffrey. I got this at a book swap. (Yeah, the one I was writing about last month.) I like them, mostly, but this book didn't do much for me. It was too predictable and too cliched. Book 27 also rated two stars. I won't read the sequel, despite the teaser in the back.

Trashy fiction is awesome when you don't feel that good. It's been making my stressful week a bit more bearable.

Other books I picked up at the book swap include Ladylord, The Virgin Suicides, What to Expect the First Year (for my job!) and Halfway Human. Additional reviews will be forthcoming.

That was a fantastic book. Highly recommended. And, of course, better than the movie.

Ladylord is awesome and I have almost given it to you more than once.

Yes. Looking at that book, I wondered - why have I never seen this before? It looks so awesome!

We'll see what develops. :)

Absolutely! Trashy fiction is a reader's version of bad daytime TV when you are home not feeling well!
