Kept: A Victorian Mystery by DJ Taylor
Feb. 9th, 2008 07:30 amThis book is long and slow and has many viewpoint characters. I know, two this week! Like Coyote Kings, I ultimately found it worthwhile. It came together very well at the end, which is something I like in a book - especially one as complicated as this. The format was probably my favorite thing about it - some narration, some letters, some newspaper articles. But it didn't contain many surprises or other elements to set it apart from other books. Three stars. Special note: this would not make a good plane book. It worked better for me when I could alternate it with something else, read a few chapters every few days. Recommended for Vic lit enthusiasts, but it is not as good as Silent in the Grave or The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters, two other recent mysteries set in Victorian times.
