two anthologies
Jun. 10th, 2007 10:01 amI got both of these books from paperbackswap.com.
I picked up Inventing the Abbotts by Sue Miller on a whim. I had seen the movie, featuring Liv Tyler topless. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it STRONGLY. (STRONGLY.) I also recommend that you not watch it with your parents. The same themes run through all the stories in the book that we saw in the movie - sexual desire, betrayal, secrets, longing, family. I found the collection haunting. I highly recommend it. Four stars.
I ordered Kick @$$ because I like light reading in the summer, and I knew some of the contributing authors. The book contains four novellas, by Maggie Shayne, MaryJanice Davidson, Angela Knight, and Jacey Ford. My favorites were the two with sci fi elements - "The Incredible Misadventures of Boo and the Boy Blunder" and "Warfem." Those were good but not great. The other two pieces weren't good at all. Thus, I don't feel I can recommend this collection. Two stars.
