dark, erotic, sensual, and SHORT

This week, I finished two books that were hot, dark, and short.

The first was With a Rough Tongue: Femmes Write Porn edited by Amber Dawn and Trish Kelly. This had been a present from 7j a while back. I read it slowly. My favorite stories were "Butt Really," "Fisherman," "Fortunate Messes," "The Scene Here Sucks," and "Edge Play." I would recommend this to porn gourmands as well as anyone who identifies as femme. There are few enough femme-focused books out there that I think this is very much worth reading. I'd give it three stars.

The second was ThirtyFour, by Tanith Lee writing as Esther Garber. Themes of madness, myth, sensuality, and family run through this book, as through most of Lee's works. I enjoyed the first chapter the most - at seventy pages, it could easily stand alone as a novella - but seeing the unfolding of deeper (though confusing) layers as the book progressed was also very interesting. Four stars, as I will definitely be reflecting on that first chapter lovingly for some time to come. ETA: I forgot to mention I picked this up at our last book swap. I don't know if we'll be having those as often, now that I'm using paperbackswap, but I sure did get a lot of interesting books the last time.
