adult books
Jun. 28th, 2006 12:02 pmLast week I finished The Academy, by Laura Antoniou, which was loaned to me by the fabulous
fortryll. I had resisted reading this book for a while, because, in my opinion, the previous book, The Trainer, sucked. (I thought the main character was extremely whiny and it wasn't as hot as the other books. Also, a character that I really liked, Tara, was put through something really unpleasant just to create a neat plot device, and that bugged me.) I'm happy to say that this book was much better. I enjoyed it generally, and very much enjoyed the stand-alone short stories found throughout the book, especially "In'shallah." It was just so sweet. I would give this book three stars.
Yesterday, I finished A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore. He's long been one of my favorite writers of comedic fantasy. ADJ is, IMO, one of his best books. It made me laugh out loud on numerous occaisions, and I found the characters very believable. I also loved the creatures (I won't be more specific than that). Four stars for book 75.
(As a side note, it looks like my book total for 2006 is going to be significantly higher than what I had in 2005. Neat.)
