Earth Logic by Laurie J Marks, was even better than its prequel Fire Logic, which I was in no way expecting. Yes, the first book should definitely be read first. But this book focused on the ways that non-obviously-pivotal characters can make a real difference in the way the story goes. You could say that the first book was about love, addiction and trama recovery. You could say that this book was about friendship, cultural change, and synchronicity. I enjoyed it immensely, and I loved the myths that were woven into it. Five stars.

When I started 100 Promises to My Baby, by Mallika Chopra, my hopes weren't terribly high. I will try any book on pregnancy and spirituality, since that's a significant focus of my business, but the fact that it had a baby angel on the cover did not seem promising.
What I discovered is that this book isn't really about pregnancy. It's about parenting. You could even say that it's about life. I imagine that, like battle plans, most of these promises would not survive first contact with the opposition (in this case, your baby). There are a lot of family stories explaining the various promises. "I will teach my baby the power of forgiveness." "I will teach my baby she lives in a global community." Anyway, I thought it was excessively sugary, and I didn't like it. About the only moms I would recommend it to would be moms that desperately need reassurance in the most cliched terms possible. Two stars.

So, it took me four days to figure out how to get to Spy Pond from my driving school in Arlington.
I had been thinking that it would be nicer to walk on the bike path back to Davis than it would be to walk on Mass Ave.

It was a very nice walk from Spy Pond to Alewife, and only added a small amount of time. However, the bike path is still closed by Rindge Ave, so I just took the train from there.

Anyway, it was nice. Then I came home, and [livejournal.com profile] ayalanya gave me amazing organic strawberries. Then I ate ice cream. Toscanninni's Ginger Snap Molasses, which they had at the store, which they haven't had in the past two times I've been to Tosci's in person, so it was great to get a fix.

I need to resume searching for my birth certificate, but I'm feeling a little unmotivated. I'm pretty sure I won't have time to go to the RMV tomorrow even if I find it.
