bryghtrose got an advance copy of the new Weetzie Bat book, Necklace of Kisses. When she had finished it, she was kind enough to loan it to me. michellemybell read me a few chapters from it. I loved it. But I sent it home with her, to demonstrate my sincere affection and trust. When she brings it back I'll get to finish it.
Library conferences are so cool! I have also been given advance copies of Call Girl by Jeanette Angell and Twilight by Stephanie Myer. I am, furthermore, waiting forbryghtrose to finish another piece of her loot, A Perfect Red, by Amy Butler Greenfield, on the history of a certain kind of dye. It should make a nice thematic arc with Women's Work, which I mentioned a few weeks ago.
I mentioned having picked up Dreams Made Flesh by Anne Bishop. I read it in about twenty-six hours, and it was really good. My favorite story was not "Heart of Kaeleer," which was kind of the feature story, but rather "Warlord Prince of Ebon Rih," which concerned how Lucivar met his wife Marian.
Last week I devoured A Civil Campaign by Lois McMaster Bujold. Her space operas are deliciously complex and incredibly funny. That book is the most recent (and possibly last, it had that feeling) in the Vorkosigan series, and I had been saving it for a time when I felt low. It was incredibly hilarious and cheered me up immensely. If science fiction doesn't make you barf, you should try reading her books.
Last week I also started _Understanding Comics_ by Scott McCloud. What a fascinating book. I'm really enjoying it. I have been a fan of comics for a long time (especially X-Men and Sandman), but this book is bringing me to a much deeper understanding of them, although parts of the theory are leaving me behind. The book also makes me want to read more comics.
Someday soon, I'm going to finish Psychic Vampire Codex, too. When I do, I'll post about it. Probably at length, because I liked some parts of it and was angered by others.

I'm still mad that Elli Quinn didn't become his love slave. *laugh*

Did you like Crown of Slaves? I haven't tried it yet.
