[livejournal.com profile] 7j lent me her copy of HP6, before she had actually read it herself. All I can say is, "Wow, thanks."

I finished it this morning. When I was about a hundred pages from the ending, I found that I couldn't stop.

I think that this book, even more than the others, is a coming-of-age story. What happens when the elders you trust don't have all the answers, can't protect you anymore? I thought it was well-done.

Also, at this point I'm feeling curious about where Rowling will go next with the series. It seems as though this was the last Hogwarts' book. But not the last book in the series. I can imagine there being one more book, and then related series... or one more book for each aspect of Voldemort still alive.

Similarly, I'm wondering if there will be a further explanation of why Dumbledore went so far in trusting Snape.

Anyway, it was really good. If it's your sort of thing, read it.

She still upholds she's not doing more than 7 books and no more fantasy after Harry. I really can't imagine how she is going to have Harry and co. finding all 4 artifacts in one book...

Wow. Really? Huh.

Well, if this R.A.B. person has more than one artifact, then perhaps they just find him or her, instead.

I would think that this would be very hard to give up, though. Is she really going to be able to resist the temptation of writing more bestsellers? I mean, at this point, even if they're drek, they're going to sell.

and plus...

Apparently she was a writer for a long time before she got published. Even harder to imagine not continuing the stories, if you've developed a connection with the characters.

Well, she has said specifically that at this point she has to be really careful because she could write crap and it would still sell...

I can't imagine giving up the characters, but I'm not her, and I'd say that it must be really a lot of strain to have so much of a fanbase and so many deemands put on you, ya know?

Maybe her conceptualization of these characters falls within the story-arch of their schooling. Schooling falls along certain lines, grade levels. After they graduate, who knows what the hell they might get up to? *smile* Maybe she wants to get this story out of her head and then move on to another interest she hasn't explored with us yet. It's a safe bet, though, that the fanfiction will continue, and maybe some of those will be publishable. (I wonder what kind of legal wrangling that would take.)

I will certainly miss them, that's for sure. (I found that, while starting to read this book, I got confused between the canon and the couple of really good fanfics I've read more recently than OotP. That's a slight problem, but I got over it.)

I have a few theories regarding Hogwarts, Harry, his friends, and Dumbledore (as well as who R.A.B is... (Regulus Black?))

I can;t wait for the conclusion.

The Half Blood Prince's book has got to be one of the artifacts and I suspect Snape will help find another artifact and Harry will almost kill him in a fit of emo rage and it will be revealed teh reason Snape was so sorry he told Voldemort about the prophecy was because he loooooved Lilly. Also why he hates Harry.

Also, I have not slept since Thrusday evening. hi!

Yeah but Regulus was such a pissy "pure blood rule!" idiot that I htink he would have been pro-Voldie. I think that maybe RAB is someone who has changed their name. I want RAB to be someone connected to Luna Lovegood.

Remember in OotP, when Sirius was recounting family history, Regulus was a Death Eater who "got too far in" and tried to leave Voldy. Voldy had him killed. This makes it plausible that Regulus does indeed play a bigger role in the HP mythos, especially since Jo only makes a passing reference to him in OotP, and usually that type of information becomes important later,

Oooh. I didn't re-read OotP before this so I forgot that. You're saying Regulus left a "bitch please I hate you so bad" note. That would rock so hard!

It is surmised that Regulus is one of the deaths Voldy used to forge one of the last of the Horcruxes... but if Regulus knew about the earlier ones, Voldy could have been already weakened by 1 or 2 before Harry even came into the picture as a baby....

Who knows... I'm just hypothesizing... most people I know who are really into HP think that RAB could be Regulus... but that may be too easy.

More on this:

http://diagonally.org/Forums/viewtopic/t=6470/postdays=0/postorder=asc/start=45.html

The letter was addressed to "The Dark Lord", which is what the Death Eaters called him. Everyone else says "He Who Shall Not be Named". Therefore, its probably a DE with the initials RAB who had cause to see Voldy go down. Only one DE besides Snape (maybe, the jury is still out on this one) would have that type of reason afaik... Regulus Black.
