Death du Jour by Kathy Reichs

I read Deja Dead a few months back. I wasn't terribly impressed by it. However, I do really enjoy the book Bones, which is loosely based on that series (both main characters have the same name and are forensic anthropologists) so I thought I would give the series one more shot.

This book was better than the first book. I don't begrudge the time I spent reading it. The characters were a bit more engaging this time, although I still occaisionally forgot who they were. The plot seemed almost entirely lifted from the first book - a flaky woman from Dr. Brennan's past comes back into her life, and she's concerned for her, but she can't see that this woman is connected to the case even though it is obvious to the reader from page 50 or earlier. It kept my attention but I'm letting the series go here. Three stars, just.
