a related follow-up question: are you currently taking on new clients?
no, not me.

And how do you find clients (or how do they find you)?
Yes, I am taking on new clients, definitely. The past few months I have been focusing on other aspects of my work (finding new backup, some paperwork-type stuff) but that's coming to a close. I would be delighted to take on new clients.
With that being said, moving on to the second question, I have not yet entirely cracked the nut of finding clients. I know that there is much more that I could do to make it happen. Right now most of my clients are through word of mouth - friends of friends of satisfied customers, and so on. I also get some clients from the ALACE website, which has a database of doula listings. I have a great flyer that is 95 % done and just needs a little more work, and then I need to put up a gazillion of them, and hopefully that will have a positive effect. There are other things I know I can do too, but that's next on my list.
In general, finding clients seems to be a bit of a challenge for most doulas. The only one I know who seems to have no problems with that whatsoever works in an ob/gyn office that has no problem with her advertising herself to their clients.
That was a short pair of questions, so I may do another one later today. I am so delighted with the quality and number of questions I'm getting asked this year. :)
