[books] Murder by Magic

I just finished Murder by Magic, edited by Rosemary Edghill. I read it because of it being referenced as the "original version" which Powers of Deception was a spinoff of.

Overall, the quality of the stories was better than those in Powers of Deception. However, the best of the stories in Murder by Magic were not as good as the best of the stories in Powers of Deception. So, none of the stories sucked, but none of them were wonderful.

Probably my favorite in Murder by Magic was "Grey Eminence" by Mercedes Lackey, but that was definitely one of the slightly fuzzy stories.

I have also been trying to read This Scepter'd Isle by Mercedes Lackey. I am almost halfway through it and it's just not doing anything for me.

It would be nice to read a slam-dunk book for a change.

Have you read The View From Saturday by E. L. Konigsburg? That was the last slam-dunk book I read. (It's YA.) Magic. :)

Oh, another one is Silent to the Bone by the same author, but The View From Saturday is my favorite. :D

Those Rosemary Edghill books - are they in her Bast series? She hasn't added a book to that series in a long time, or so I think. If she's been writing in that series again, I want to know!

Nope, but I just requested it from the library. :) I'll let you know what I think of it.

Murder by Magic is an anthology that Edghill edited. To my disappointment, she doesn't include any stories of her own. I'm with you - I liked those books a lot!
