talent for hire

So, for those of you who might not know, I am currently looking for clients as a birth assistant. Have a pregnant friend? Send 'em my way! I am experienced and reliable, and I structure my fees on a sliding scale.

To provide spice, variety, and cash, I am also interested in acquiring some more clients for freelance editing and energywork. With editing, I can do from three pages to book length, pretty much any topic outside of academic math and science texts. I am able to do anything from helping you write something from scratch, through copy editing up, through structural stuff, to "How can this be improved?" In energywork, my specialties are treating emotional issues and managing chronic pain. I will happily work for barter or money.

Un Lun Dun by China Mieville

I was thrilled to read about this book. I have been hearing great things about Mieville for a long time, but folks who know me well have also cautioned me that I might find his books upsetting. This new book, however, was written for young readers, so I hoped that it wouldn't contain anything too distressing to me. My hopes were fulfilled.

This book was just so darned good. It was really creative and original, which is tough to do with YA fantasy in a post-Harry-Potter world. It has a lot of plays on words, but not in an annoying way (and this is coming from someone who normally doesn't like puns!). I loved the characters, and I loved the way UnLondon is portrayed. Really top-notch. I hope Mieville will write more books like this. Five stars. Wonderful.
